Media transformation in V4 countries

The course has developed on the basis of the PhD. research of the project coordinator. Her research activities focused on the democratic media transformation in the ECE countries. The Visegrad group countries were and still are in the centre of her interest. The findings of the conducted research collected during the last few years, not only at home but also abroad, form a strong base for introduction and implementation of the presented course. The importance of the course results from the need to be familiar with the historic and geographic background of our region, especially in the study field of ours. Then it is absolutely indicated to teach the Media studies students about the development of the media environment in their country and region (in our case the V4). The synchronic and diachronic comparative perspective of the course makes its existence well-grounded and legitimate.

Tentative time frame of the project

As mentioned above, the tutor of the project and the course in one person disposes of wide theoretical knowledge about the subject and has the needed terrain experience to introduce and implement the course in question. The course will be ofcially launched in the academic year 2013/2014. Until then the concrete schedule of the host lecturer’s lectures will be settled depending on the schedule of the course itself. The first part of the course will deal with the transformation of the Slovak and the Czech media systems and environments, while the second part of the course will focus on the Hungarian and the Polish media systems and environments. According to our plans, during the first three years of enrolment of the course, Czech and Hungarian lecturers will take part in the lecturing process (respectively Polish lecturers). Preparation of a scriptum also belongs to the preparation activities. Adequate part of the tutor’s conducted research will be used as a fundamental material in this process, which will be widened by further materials, collected from various sources – among others we consider relevant the scholarly texts gathered from the host lecturers.
